Pea puree in the microwave

Housewives who have a microwave oven in their arsenal use it not only for heating food, but also for preparing various dishes. Food is cooked much faster in this household appliance than on the stove. This is especially noticeable when cooking peas. If it is cooked on the stove for 1, 5-2 hours, then pea puree in the microwave will be ready in 30-40 minutes (and even earlier).

To boil peas in the microwave, you need to purchase a ceramic, glass pan or a suitable container with high sides, since the beans foam a lot during cooking and can "run away". The cooking time for peas also depends on the variety and degree of ripeness. If it has been stored for a long time, then it will cook longer than a young one. By this principle, you can prepare a base for creamy pea soup.

Step-by-step microwave puree of peas

Sort the peas, remove all impurities and darkened grains. Rinse thoroughly in cold water until the water is clear. Well washed peas give less foam during cooking, which means they will not run over the edge of the pan.

Soak the peas in cold water for 2-3 hours. Old peas require longer soaking (6-9 hours).

Do not use warm or hot water for soaking, as the peas in such water can sour and become unusable. And when the peas have absorbed most of the liquid and become larger, drain the remaining water.

Transfer the peas to a saucepan, cover with clean cold boiled water.

To boil 1 kg of legumes, usually take about 3 liters of water. There should be a lot of liquid, since during the cooking process of legumes, water is not added, otherwise this increases the duration of their preparation.

Place the pot in the microwave. Cover it loosely with the lid. Set maximum power. When the water boils well, remove the foam that appears with a spoon. Reduce power to minimum. Cook for 35-40 minutes. Season with salt at the end of cooking.

Any legumes should not be salted at the beginning of cooking, otherwise they will remain tough for a long time.

After a while, the peas should boil down and absorb almost all the water.

Remove the pot from the oven. Pour the contents gently into a sieve or fine-mesh colander.

Transfer the hot peas back to the pot immediately. Grind it with a hand blender until puree.

A properly prepared puree should be thick, fluffy, and keep its shape well.

Usually, mashed peas are served in the same way as potatoes: with melted butter, with onion or tomato sauce, with stews, cutlets or meatballs.

Even if you cook peas in the microwave, you still need to soak them for several hours before cooking so that they swell well and become softer. To make a delicious and perfect puree, the peas must be boiled until they are soft, but you should not boil them, otherwise you will not be able to separate them from the liquid to make the puree.
