Boil the pearl barley in advance until half cooked. Rinse well.
Boil the water. Add barley. Dice the potatoes and add to the saucepan.
Dice the carrots, chop the onion, fry in vegetable oil for 3 minutes. Add to the pan.
Cut the cucumbers into cubes and add to the saucepan. Reduce heat.
Add chopped olives and bay leaves. Salt.
Simmer over low heat for another 10 minutes.
Let it brew.
